There she is, Ms. Alaska. There she is, your ideal.

There she is, Ms. Alaska. There she is, your ideal.

Wow.  Just wow.

It was just announced that John McCain has tapped Alaska governor Sarah Palin as his running mate.

My initial reactions.

  • Does this help his chances pulling the Hillary supporters away from Obama?  Only if they supported Hillary only because of her sex and not because of her stance on any issue.  Because you could not find a person who is more politically opposite to Hillary Clinton than Sarah Palin.
  • McCain has just really energized the voters who were already going to vote for him anyway.   She is ultra-conservative.  I doubt there are a whole lot of ultra-conservatives who were entertaining the idea of voting for Obama/Biden
  • McCain just lost the independents.   Palin is extremely pro-gun, anti-gay rights, pro-death penalty but, she’s pro-life.  If I live to be 150, I’ll never understand how you can be pro-life and pro-death penalty.
  • McCain just guaranteed that he wins Alaska.  Great job.  Alaska hasn’t been a blue state since the 1964 election, and they have 3, count em’ 3 electoral votes.
  • Her husband is an Eskimo… OK, well that’s kinda cool.  Get it?
  • If he strategically wanted to pick a woman, there was a much more qualified one.

Basically.  This is as close to a hail-mary as a Vice-Presidential pick can get.   I guarantee you that McCain’s choice was not Sarah Palin 5 minutes before Obama’s speech last night.  Sarah Palin might be a very good governor.  Lord knows she’s popular in Alaska.  But I know someone who lives in Alaska and I have been told on more than one occasion that it’s just a different world out there.  What works for Alaska will not work for the country as a whole.  It just won’t.

This pick was, in my opinion, really bad strategery.

Check out time code 2:53.  Um… I hope someone told her.

Plus, she kinda looks like the chick from My Big Fat Greek Wedding. I don’t want that broad second-in-command of my country, thats for sure.

Many of your thoughts regarding this were the same as mine, I honestly think it’s a GOP ploy to the all the disgruntled ex-Hillary supporters…. They’re already pissed that Obama didn’t pick her as his running mate so they’re going for the pissed off vote with this move.

I guarantee that John McCain wanted Kay Bailey Hutchinson but she said “hell no”, so he just said “what other women are in politics?”

This kind of says to me that McCain and the GOP think so little of women that they believe they’ll support ANY woman getting into the white house regardless of her stances.

Women aren’t THAT stupid.

[…] and foremost (and as I previously mentioned), Palin is not the middle of the road reformer that the Republicans have been trying to paint her […]

If u are a conservative, she is an awesome choice. Conservatives have not been all that crazy about McCain believing he is not conservative enough. Palin makes the conservatives happy, while offering something in the political arena besides an old whie male.
